    Rodolfo Oviedo Vega

"Mis piezas no solo representan, sino que confrontan : son fragmentos de realidad que revelan las cicatrices invisibles que moldean nuestro espíritu colectivo".

Rodolfo Oviedo Vega has become a symbol of the Salvadoran diaspora since Paris in the Inter-American system, being the most international Salvadoran artist of his generation. He is an Artist, Architect and Cultural Manager. His work has been reflected in cultural management and the consolidation of cultural links between France and Latin America, exhibited to date in more than 26 countries around the world individually. Among these exhibitions and public and private collections are the LangLang Foundation, the Pompidou Museum in Metz, the House of Artists in Tehran, the Ministry of Defense in Spain, the Gomez Palace in Havana in Cuba, owned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France, the Prince Albert of Monaco Collection and Prince Charles de Bourbon of the Two Sicilies, among others.

Currently, he is President of the Cultural Association “Jour et Nuit ” in Paris, from 2018 to 2022 he was Director of the International Cultural Center in Panama, in both locations providing a special workplace for artists where they can also exhibit their creations. Annually providing opportunities to more than 400 artists from around the world since 2010. In 2015, he co-founded the ACA Association for the promotion of Central American culture.

Since 2023, he has worked as vice-president of the Legacy Forum Foundation, which looks after the legacy of indigenous peoples.

He is an artist committed to art and its impact, who travels, lives, and sees the world, restoring its essence. Rodolfo Oviedo Vega’s work is not just about painting, but about going beyond representation, communicating a message without imposing it; working the materials to achieve cohesion through his perspective, without inhibiting it. It is about exploring the symbolic and touching the universal.

About his art

This exhibition of the collection in the Art Museum of the Américas marks a milestone, as it is the first solo exhibition by a Salvadoran artist at this prestigious museum since 1989.

This exhibition features a series of sculptures and paintings centered on the concepts of freedom, resilience, and the reinterpretation of historical narratives. Drawing inspiration from Latin American cultural identity, my goal is to spark conversations about postcolonial transformation, environmental sustainability, and the ways in which history continues to shape our societies today.

The exhibition is structured around four fundamental axes intrinsically related to significant historical periods on the continent: the indigenous peoples; the complexity of the cultural clash of the conquest; slavery and Afro-descendant communities; the struggle for independence and national identities; and the challenges of the modern era.

This project would not have been possible without the generous support of the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) from the Organization of American States (OAS), The The Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the OAS, The Permanent Observer of France to the Organization of American States (OAS), The Embassy of France in El Salvador, as well the tireless efforts of the collectors, curators and collaborators who have helped bring this vision to life.

Through this exhibition, I invite you to explore the delicate balance between abstract symbolism and tangible references to our shared histories, embodied in both paintings and sculptures.
