    Ali Alvarez

"I want to cause a reaction whether it’s to delight or provoke. Since as an artist I understand art can simply be, “l’art pour l’art”, and that’s what I do."

She is a visual artist who was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic of Dominican parents but foreign grandparents. Her education has been bilingual as well as her culture. And for as long as she can remember she has been drawing or inventing.

Her first two college years were spent at Chavon School of Design in La Romana, Dominican Republic, where she studied Fine Arts and Illustration. Then she went on to finish her bachelor degree in Illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York City. During her first years back in Santiago, her work centered around graphic design, advertising, and marketing. Here, she created, as well as directed important editorial and advertising campaigns. Only recently have she started to integrate herself into the local art scene with some collective exhibits, a solo exhibit May 2024, as well as continuing to do consignment pieces.

About her art

"Ali presents a consubstantial and organic pictorial work, submiting herself to an essential idea: treating the observed environment as a theme or transcending it by turning it into an element that not only hinges on a geographical, lively and tropical variety, but an ambience, a totality of meaning, and meaning where life, human relationships, identity and culture develop."  Ingrid González de Rodríguez, Periodico La Información, Santiago, R. D.
